Japan introduces departure tax

Tax revenue will be spent to improve the capacity of airports in Japan.
Each passenger departing Japan by sea or on a plane should pay a departure tax of 1000 yen (approximately 10 dollars), concerning citizens of all countries, RIA Novosti informs.

According to the Japanese government's estimations, on average, 40 million tourists will visit the country of the Rising Sun by 2020, greatly benefiting to the country that provides free visas for the time being.

Crews of ships and aircraft, deportees, children under two years and transit passengers, diplomats, and passengers of government special flights, as well as forced landings or visits to ports of Japan due to weather conditions, are among exceptions.

Those who have bought tickets until 7 January are freed from departure taxes.

Tax revenue will be spent to improve the capacity of airports in Japan by introducing an automated facial recognition system, increase the attractiveness of tourist sightseeings, provide more information and services.
