Kazakh Foreign Minister meets with OSCE Secretary-General

Kazakhstan sees the OSCE as one of the important and relevant organizations in a system of modern international relations, the Kazakh Foreign Minister says.
Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov has met with Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Thomas Greminger. The OSCE Hgh Representative takes part in the 6th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions initiated by President Nursultan Nazarbayev, press service of the Foreign Ministry reports.

Mr Greminger welcomes the efforts of Astana to strengthen global interreligious and inter-confessional dialogue which is, according to him, is very sought after in modern times.

The OSCE Secretary-General expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for a strong commitment to and support for the Organization, particularly in the time when multilateralism is under a great pressure.

According to Kairat Abdrakhmanov, Kazakhstan considers the OSCE as the important and relevant organization in a system of modern international relations. The Organization can do much more so some countries have overcome conflicts by settling them.

In this regard, Kazakhstan is ready to continue its peace-keeping mission. And, it also very important to begin talks to strengthen safety in the entire Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian space, possibly based on a new legal base considering the Astana Summit's legacy. The three safety measurements, they are discussions in the context of the structured dialogue, fight against terrorism and other transnational threats and challenges, the facilitation of sustainable development, a human rights issue strongly require to focus great efforts by the participating states," said Abdrakhmanov.


The Foreign Ministry's head outlined the importance of OSCE structures' equitable basing throughout its area of responsibility enabling to strengthen trust and mutual understanding. The OSCE thematic centre based on the EXPO's infrastructure could be one of such structures in the future to exchange the advanced experience in the area of economic inter-connectedness, proper management, green economy, disaster risk reduction and energy safety. Heading the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee for the second year in a row, Kazakhstan intends to attract its partners to projects for developing the transport infrastructure, transit potential, tourism in the light of the recent Address of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to the people of Kazakhstan.

The programme of the visit of the OSCE General-Secretary also includes a participation in the international conference under the theme '20 years of OSCE in Kazakhstan: cooperation and achievements' held by the Library of the First President of Kazakhstan - Elbasy jointly with the OSCE Programme Office in Astana.
