Kazakh Majilis ratifies Memorandum with India to send Kazakh peacekeepers as part of UN to Lebanon

The document defines the order of joint deployment of a peace-keeping contingent, including command and control, financial and medical support.
The Deputies of the Majilis of Parliament have adopted the draft Law 'On ratification of the Memorandum of Mutual Understanding between the Governments of Kazakhstan and India on the order of joint deployment of Kazakhstan's peace-keeping contingent as a part of India's battalion of the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon'.

According to Deputy Defense Minister Talgat Mukhtarov, the document defines the order of joint deployment of a peace-keeping contingent, including command and control, financial and medical support, as well as training.

The squadron is provided with necessary weapons and ammunition, personal and specialized equipment, communication means, sleeping, bathroom and laundry properties, as well as with field, kitchen equipment, properties of ideological and teaching work," said Talgat Mukhtarov, the Deputy Defense Minister, at a plenary session of the Majilis of Parliament of Kazakhstan.


According to the Deputy Minister, Kazakhstan's peacekeepers fall under the control of the Indian unit during the mission, and the interaction order between the parties will be regulated by the UN procedures.

Necessary preparations have taken place jointly with Indian partners. All organizational and legal aspects have been elaborated, as well as the dislocation, the peculiarity of season responsibility, traditions and lifestyle of the local people, the organization of a peacekeepers' service, possible risks, peacekeepers' actions in the event of an escalation of the situation, forecasts of the situation's possible development in the region have been studied," said Mukhtarov.


According to the speaker, matters of social welfare of soldiers taking part in the mission are provided for by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

So, according to the Law on peacekeeping operations of Kazakhstan, militants during the peacekeeping mission are provided with three-time salaries, sanatorium treatment at the expense of the state, and with an extra holiday, as well as the period of participation in the peacekeeping mission is taken into account on favorable terms,"


As Mukhtarov underlined the participation of Kazakhstan's unit in the UN mission would greatly contribute to strengthening global security, as well as would enhance Kazakhstan's authority as a responsible member of the international community.
