Kazakh Secretary of State partook in a roundtable on human rights protection

International experts positively assessed human rights protection mechanisms exercised by Kazakhstan.
Secretary of State Gulshara Abdykalikova took part in a roundtable 'The human rights protection activity of the state and civil society institutions.'

The event to mark Human Rights Day and 70 years since the adoption of the Universal Human Rights Declaration by the UN General Assembly was also attended by Supreme Court Chairman Assanov, Chairman of the Human Rights Commission Sultanov, Foreign Minister Abdrakhmanov, UN Permanent Coordinator in Kazakhstan Shimomura, Head of the European Union Delegation to Kazakhstan Sven-Olov Carlsson, Head of the OSCE Program Office in Astana Gyorgy Sabo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain to Kazakhstan Gifford, representatives of government agencies, civil society and so on.

In her welcome speech, the Secretary of State emphasized the Head of State's words: 'The rule of law is a key success factor of our reforms.'

Kazakhstan's national system of human rights protection is based on a solid economic foundation and aims at increasing the living standards of the citizens, which is a defining indicator in the country's legal development," said Abdykalikova.


During the roundtable, an exchange of views on the implementation of human rights and freedoms fixed in the Constitution and the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the improvement of the human rights national protection mechanisms.

The implementation of the norms of international law, the improvement of judicial and extra-judicial protection of human rights in Kazakhstan was argued out.

International and national experts gave a positive assessment of the human rights protection mechanisms of Kazakhstan and the national system of human rights protection.

Concluding the roundtable, the Secretary of State of Kazakhstan thanked the international institutions and human rights NGOs for the effective cooperation in the human rights protection area.
