Kazakhstan announces an agreement with Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey on transit via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars

Kazakh Ambassador in Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov has stated that Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Turkey are preparing an agreement on the transit of goods by rail via the being built route of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars.

Baku. October 18. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan has announced the signing of a new regional agreement on the transit of goods.

According to Fineko/abc.az, Kazakh Ambassador in Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov has stated that Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Turkey are preparing an agreement on the transit of goods by rail via the being built route of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars.

"The agreement is to be concluded before the end of 2012, but its parameters (volume of transit, tariffs, etc.) are still at stage of coordination," Primbetov said.

Earlier, Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov claimed that the commercial operation of railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (Iron Silk Way) can begin before the end of 2013, which will increase the transit of goods through the country up to 50 million tons.

In turn, Kazakhstan proposed to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey a project of container train project Silk Wind from China to Istanbul.
