Kazakhstan called for political regulation of Syrian crisis in UN Security Council

Kazakhstan has urged all interested parties to realise the Memorandum to stabilize the situation in the de-escalation zone in the Syrian city of Dlib, which was signed by the guarantor countries of the Astana process.
The need to resume the talks on Syria within the Astana process and to support further efforts in Geneva as so to reach peace in this country was mentioned by the participants of the session of the UN Security Council in New York, press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reports.

A delegation from Kazakhstan has spoken for the political settlement of the Syrian crisis, including by the formation of the Syrian Constitutional Committee at the session.

It is Syrian people who should form a future political system of Syria with the support of the world community," said Kanat Tumysh, the Deputy Permanent Chairman of Kazakhstan to the United Nations.


Kazakhstan has urged all interested parties to realise the Memorandum to stabilize the situation in the de-escalation zone in the Syrian city of Dlib, which was signed by the guarantor countries of the Astana process, by Russian and Turkey on September 17, as well as to ensure a secure and unimpeded humanitarian access to all regions of the country on the shortest ways.

Gratitude was expressed, as well as the efforts to regulate the Syrian crisis by Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Syria Staffan de Mistura were highly appraised, who announced the intention to leave his post by the end of November during the session.

Staffan de Mistura assured that he would take intensive actions to form a Syrian Committee to draft the country's new Constitution until the completion of his mandate, as well as would invite representatives of the guarantor states of the Astana process to a meeting on Syria in Geneva.

Delegations from other states also expressed gratitude and gave a positive assessment to the efforts of Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Syria Staffan de Mistura on the resolution of the Syrian crisis. It was noted that it was important to maintain both the innovative regional pattern of its resolution and the Geneva and Astana procedures as so to end the war in Syria.

We note Astana has held 9 rounds of talks to regulate the situation in Syria. The main result of the meetings held in the Kazakh capital was the creation of de-escalation zones that made it possible to considerably reduce the level of violence in the country.
