Kazakhstan could form a special model of interreligious peace and accord - Nazarbayev

According to the Kazakh President, Kazakhstan's experience is applicable around the world.
Kazakhstan could strike a balance between the ensuring national security to the protecting religious freedoms, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the 6th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.

Today, everyone, including all attendees, religious, public figures, politicians, should contribute to overcoming the global crisis. And, spiritual leaders should articulate their firm positions. You represent religions, each of them is unique, as well as each fully accepts universal human rights, the unity of moral principles," said the Kazakh head of state at the 6th Congress of World and Traditional Religions' Leaders.


During his speech, the Kazakh President outlined the five Congresses held in Astana proving the viability of the idea of mutual respect, a constructive cooperation of leaders of various cultures, religions and communities.

Despite almost the majority of our citizens are Muslims, that is not stopping the freedom of other religions," he said.


According to the Kazakh President, in Kazakhstan, more than 3.5 thousand religious entities and 18 various confessions are registered.

With such diversity of confessions, we could strike a balance between the ensuring national security and protecting religious freedoms. Our state by the universal recognition could form a special Kazakhstan's model of interreligious peace and accord. I am sure that Kazakhstan's experience and practice are fully applicable around the world," said Nursultan Nazarbayev.


We note the 6th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions under the theme 'Religious Leaders for the Safe World' has started off in Astana.

More than 82 delegations from 46 states, including eminent politicians, religious Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Daoism, Zoroastrianism, as well as representatives of the world, religious and public organizations, such as the UN Alliance of Civilization, OSCE, UNESCO, the Arab League and others. The Congress includes two plenary session and four breakout sessions.
