Kazakhstan, Lithuanian FM's discussed bilateral cooperation

The Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan - Marat Tazhin and Lithuania - Petras Vaytekunas discussed the questions of cooperation of two countries on Wednesday in Astana, the agency reports.

"We touched upon with the Minister of Kazakhstan the issues of economic cooperation, the planned meetings of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, and also spoke about cooperation between Lithuania and Kazakhstan in cultural sphere," P. Vaytekunas said to journalists after the meeting.

According to the Lithuanian FM, the questions of transit of the Kazakhstan cargoes through the Lithuanian port have been discussed.

According to the Statistics Agency of Kazakhstan, commodity turnover between Kazakhstan and Lithuania for January - June 2007 made $57.2 million, export - $26.7 million, import - $30.5 million. Following the results of 2006 commodity turnover made $72.9 million, including export - $28.8 million, import - $44.1 million. According to the Lithuanian party, the parameter of mutual commodity turnover in 2006 reached $270 million.

The main items of the Kazakhstan export to Lithuania are mineral fuel, oil, mineral wax, and ferrous metals. In its turn, Kazakhstan imports from Lithuania motor vehicles, pharmaceutical production, electro machines, TV and radio equipment, livestock products and the various industrial goods.

22 joint ventures with participation of the Lithuanian capital work in Kazakhstan, 13 of them are Kazak-Lithuanian joint ventures, 9 Lithuanian.
