Kazakhstan State Secretary met Ambassador of European Commission Representation in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan State Secretary Kanat Saudabayev met the chairman of the European Commission Representation in Kazakhstan, the Ambassador Adriaan van der Meer today in Akorda in connection with completion of his mission, the agency reports referring to the press service of the president's administration.

Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan State Secretary Kanat Saudabayev met the chairman of the European Commission Representation in Kazakhstan, the Ambassador Adriaan van der Meer today in Akorda in connection with completion of his mission, the agency reports referring to the press service of the president's administration.

"The period of your work in Kazakhstan can be characterized as the time of intensive and productive development of cooperation with the European Union (EU) in all directions, bringing it to the level of strategic partnership," K. Saudabayev said. The State Secretary thanked Adriaan van der Meer for significant contribution to development of the Kazakhstan-European relations.

"Thorough development of the relations with Europe corresponds to the principles of multi vector foreign policy of the President Nursultan Nazarbayev and the national interests of the country. Kazakhstan counts on significant strengthening of partnership with EU in the nearest years, as on the threshold and during the presidency of the country in OSCE in 2010," K. Saudabayev emphasized.

According to the press service of the president, during the meeting the parties emphasized that "partnership of Kazakhstan with Europe is based on commonality of interests in maintenance of stability and social and economic development in Central Asia, joint opposition to new challenges to security from the organized crime and international terrorism. The important aspects of cooperation are democracy and rule of law, security of borders and struggle against drug-dealing."

The ways of further strengthening and expansion of the Kazakhstan-European cooperation, new opportunities opened by the Strategy of New Partnership between the European Union and the Central Asian countries." Alongside with the traditional spheres of cooperation, Kazakhstan offers cooperation in the field of environmental protection, education and professional training. Jointly developed document Strategy of New Partnership: Priorities for Kazakhstan will bring Kazakhstan- European cooperation to a qualitatively new level.
