Kazakhstan takes part in 52nd session of General Conference of International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna

Kazakhstan is taking part in 52nd session of General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, which began its work on September 29, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the International Organizations in Vienna.

Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan is taking part in 52nd session of General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, which began its work on September 29, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the International Organizations in Vienna.

According to the press service, the structure of the Kazakhstan delegation includes Kazakhstan permanent representative at the international organizations in Vienna, Kayrat Abdrahmanov, chairman of Atomic Energy Committee of Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry of Kazakhstan, Timur Zhantikin, the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of JSC National Atomic Company Kazatomprom in Vienna.

"During the conference that will last till October 4, the participants will hear the report of IAEA General Director, Mohammed El Baradei, on the work of the agency in 2008, the programs of further activity of the organization, prospects of further development of atomic engineering and other directions of peaceful use of atomic energy," the message informs.

According to the press service, the participants will also consider the questions of strengthening of safety and improvement of high technologies in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy.

Kazakhstan, Russia, the USA, Canada, China, India, Great Britain, Japan and South Korea that possess the full spectrum of nuclear technology presented their expositions during the session. The main position in the Kazakhstan exposition is devoted to the 10th anniversary of Astana, refusal of the fourth in the world nuclear potential, the 17th anniversary of closing of Semipalatinsk nuclear range, consecutive role of the country in strengthening of mode of non-distribution of nuclear weapons and control of nuclear materials, and completed on 27 September, 2008 large-scale exercises (IFE-08) of the Organization for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which was held along with the National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan on the basis of Semipalatinsk range.

Kazakhstan joined IAEA on February 14, 1994. The main spheres of cooperation of Kazakhstan with the agency is strengthening of the state infrastructure of safety of peaceful use of atomic energy, mode of non-distribution of nuclear weapons, and control of nuclear and other radioactive materials. There is an active cooperation in the field of application of nuclear technologies in various spheres: atomic engineering, application of nuclear-physical and isotope technologies in medicine, agriculture, industry, and science.
