Leaders of Caspian littoral states accepted joint declaration
Astana. October 18. Kazakhstan Today - The leaders of the Caspian littoral states, following the results of the summit in Teheran, accepted joint declaration. The press service of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan informed.
"Following the results of the negotiations, the final document - the Declaration of the Azerbaijani Republic, Islamic Republic Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan, which at the political level strengthened the existing arrangements of the states on the main issues of the legal status of the Caspian Sea, security and stability in the sea, as well as the questions connected with the position of the near-Caspian states on separate aspects of international relations (strengthening of the role of the United Nations, IAEA, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, international terrorism," the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs widespread on Wednesday states.
According to the signed document the Caspian littoral countries will develop cooperation in transport and energy spheres.
The near-Caspian countries agreed to promote an effective utilization of transport potential of the region, including formation and development of the international transport corridors.
The parties also stated that only the coastal states possess the sovereign rights concerning the Caspian Sea and its resources.
The Caspian littoral states, including Iran, declared that they consider the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as one of the major support of international safety and stability.
The leaders of the near-Caspian states expressed satisfaction with the results of the summit in Teheran and expressed firm intention to promote development of mutual cooperation.
The arrangement on carrying out on regular basis the meetings and the sessions between them - the sessions of Ministers for Foreign Affairs, and the authorized experts of the parties to consider all complex of issues connected with the Caspian Sea has been reached. The next summit of the leaders of the near-Caspian states has been decided to be held in 2008 in the Azerbaijan Republic.
