National interests of Kazakhstan in Customs Union protected

The national interests of Kazakhstan in the Customs Union are protected. The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Karim Masimov, said at a briefing, following the results of session of the supreme body of the Customs Union on Friday, the agency reports citing official mass media.

Almaty. May 31. Kazakhstan Today - The national interests of Kazakhstan in the Customs Union are protected. The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Karim Masimov, said at a briefing, following the results of session of the supreme body of the Customs Union on Friday, the agency reports citing official mass media.

K. Masimov underlined that during the session Kazakhstan and Russia agreed on realization of the second stage of the Customs Union within the planned period of time - since July 1, 2010 and signed the corresponding contract.

"We agreed on the second stage of the Customs Union. Unfortunately, Belarus has not joined the second stage, but we hope that such decision will be made in the near future," K. Masimov said.

According to the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, as a result of the negotiations, the national interests of Kazakhstan have become protected, the decisions (within the limits of the Customs Union) will be made by consensus. Secondly, we have agreed that import of automobiles until a certain moment (creation of the uniform economic space) will be realized according to the old scheme. That is the population of Kazakhstan will have another benefit."

The Customs Union includes three states: Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia. The decision to create the Customs Union was made in August, 2006 at the EurAsEC Interstate Council session. The main agreements on various aspects of functioning of the Customs Union came into force since January 1, 2010.
