President of Latvian Republic arrived in Ashkhabad for the first official visit

The President of the Latvian Republic, Valdis Zatlers, arrived in Ashkhabad for the first official visit, the agency reports referring to Turkmen state information agency.

Almaty. October 7. Kazakhstan Today - The President of the Latvian Republic, Valdis Zatlers, arrived in Ashkhabad for the first official visit, the agency reports referring to Turkmen state information agency.

The President of Kazakhstan, Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, and the President of Latvia will hold the negotiations on October 8.

The forthcoming meeting will be some kind of a prologue to a full-scale interstate dialogue that will be attached a new dynamics with a view of further development of the Turkmen-Latvian relations both in bilateral and a multilateral format - within the limits of the largest international organizations and associations.

As of September 1, 2008, 2 projects for a total sum of $1 million have been registered being realized with participation of the Latvian companies in oil-and-gas and energy spheres in the territory of Turkmenistan. One more enterprise has been registered in the country with participation of the Latvian capital - the branch of Open Company KELK carrying out wholesale trade.

During the negotiations the parties discussed a broad range of questions of bilateral cooperation in political, economic and cultural spheres as well as the questions of world policy representing mutual interest. Special accent will be made on possibilities of partnership in view of activization of the dialogue between Turkmenistan and European Union. Latvia has been the EU member since 2004.

Following the results of the visit of the President of the Latvian Republic to Ashkhabad, the parties are expected to sign bilateral documents aimed at creation of a reliable platform for further strengthening of cooperation in the interests of two nations.
