Presidents of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan signed joint statement

The Presidents of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan Emomali Rakhmon and Kurmanbek Bakiyev signed following the results of negotiations taken place on the coast of Kayrakkum water reservoir in Sogda joint statement on Friday, the agency reports referring to the news agency Asia-Plus.

Kayrakkum. May 19. Kazakhstan Today - The Presidents of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan Emomali Rakhmon and Kurmanbek Bakiyev signed following the results of negotiations taken place on the coast of Kayrakkum water reservoir in Sogda joint statement on Friday, the agency reports referring to the news agency Asia-Plus.

The statement emphasizes importance of acceleration of the work of the intergovernmental commission on delimitation and demarcation of the state boundary. Therefore, they charged the leaders of commission to "solve the disputable issues on description of border line in a spirit of friendly relations between two states, mutual understanding and trust, and to accelerate legal registration of the border line and conduct the negotiation process effectively and actively."

The Presidents of two countries underlined importance of permanent co-ordination of hydro-power policy of two states. They noted the necessity of realization of projects on building of electro transmission line for subsequent supply of electric power to the third countries through the territories of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The parties noted the necessary to make maximum joint efforts for signing of quadrilateral intergovernmental protocol on use of hydro-power resources of Naryn-Syrdarya cascade of water reservoirs for 2008 - 2010.

The statement informs that volume of external trade between countries does not correspond to potentials of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Therefore, to increase trade turnover, taking into account that trade and transport is closely connected with one another, the parties emphasized importance and necessity of conducting the work on connection of motor road and railways with the third countries through the territories of two countries.

The Presidents signed memorandum on creation of Intergovernmental Coordination Council and Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of two countries.
