Resolution on struggle against trade in people adopted under initiative of Belarus

Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) accepted resolution on struggle against trade in people presented by Belorussia with the co-authorship of Kazakhstan, China, the Russian Federation, Mexico, Philippines, Ecuador and Japan, the agency reports referring to the UN News Center.

Almaty. July 28. Kazakhstan Today - Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) accepted resolution on struggle against trade in people presented by Belorussia with the co-authorship of Kazakhstan, China, the Russian Federation, Mexico, Philippines, Ecuador and Japan, the agency reports referring to the UN News Center.

The resolution Strengthening of coordination of the UN activity and other efforts on struggle against trade in people calls upon the UN member states, subsidiary council bodies, the intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations to bring contribution to development of the plan of action on prevention of trade in people, punishment of traders of people, protection of victims and rendering help.

The governments, regional and international organizations and civil society are urged to make efforts with the purpose of elimination, in particular, economic and social factors generating and encouraging trade in people and to promote physical, psychological and social rehabilitation of the victims of trade in people.

"We are convinced that ECOSOC as the UN coordinating body for social and economic issues should play an important role in discussion and development of the balanced and all-round approach of the United Nations to the problem of struggle against trade in people," Assistant of Permanent Representative of Belorussia, Sergey Rachkov, stated.
