Russia, Turkmenistan agreed on organization of direct railway-ferry communication on Caspian Sea

Russia and Turkmenistan agreed on organization of direct railway-ferry communication between the Russian ports on the Caspian Sea - Olya and Makhachkala - and the port Turkmenbashi. The chairman of the Executive Committee of Coordination of Transport Communication of CIS member states Chingiz Izmaylov informed, the agency reports referring to online newspaper Gudok.

Kazakhstan Today - Russia and Turkmenistan agreed on organization of direct railway-ferry communication between the Russian ports on the Caspian Sea - Olya and Makhachkala - and the port Turkmenbashi. The chairman of the Executive Committee of Coordination of Transport Communication of CIS member states Chingiz Izmaylov informed, the agency reports referring to online newspaper Gudok.

According to the expert, Turkmenistan makes efforts on organization of communication with Russia with ulterior motive. There is rather new Iranian port Amirabad in the east coast of the Caspian Sea that is also interested in creation of railway-ferry.

"Directions of transportation of freight will include from China to Europe and from Europe - to the countries of Central Asia. The organization of combined route Turkmenbashi - Makhachkala and Caucasus - Varna is also possible that could transport Turkmen cotton," C. Izmaylov informed.

In the expert opinion, practical realization of arrangements of Russia and Turkmenistan on organization of railway-ferry communication depends on capital investments and will of transport administrations of Russia.
