Russian President arrived in Aktobe for V International forum of leaders of frontier territories of Kazakhstan and Russia
Aktobe. September 22. Kazakhstan Today - The President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, arrived for a working visit in Aktobe to participate in V International forum of the leaders of frontier territories of Kazakhstan and Russia, the agency reports.
The President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, met D. Medvedev in the residence in Aktobe. Later the Russian President met the leaders of the States in 1+1 format.
As it was informed earlier, V International forum of the leaders of frontier territories of Kazakhstan and Russia is taking place in Aktobe on September 21-22. The official delegation of the Russian Federation in the structure of the first chairmen of the ministries and departments, deputies of the State Duma of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, chairmen of frontier regions of Russian Federation is headed by the President of Russia D. Medvedev.
Russia is the largest trading partner of Kazakhstan. The share of bilateral trade turnover makes 20 % of all volume of foreign trade of Kazakhstan. In 2007 commodity turnover made $16.3 bn (growth in comparison with 2006 makes 27 %) and for the first quarter of 2008 - $7.72 bn (growth in comparison with the similar period of 2007 - 32.8 %). More than 340 joint ventures work in the frontier zone.
As it was informed earlier, D. Medvedev, the President of Russia, already visited Kazakhstan in 2008. On May 22 he paid a state visit to Kazakhstan. On July 5-6 the President of the Russian Federation took part in celebrations of the anniversary of Astana.
On January 18, 2005 in Moscow the Presidents, Vladimir Putin and N. Nazarbayev, signed the FrontierContract. The border between Russia and Kazakhstan is the most extended in the world - 7591 kilometers.
The first Russian-Kazakhstan forum of frontier cooperation of the regions took place in Omsk on April 15-16, 2003. During the forum the Presidents, V. Putin and N. Nazarbayev, discussed a broad range of questions, including cooperation of two countries on the Caspian Sea, fuel and energy complex, transport, customs, energy, ecology, and legal base. A number of documents at the intergovernmental level have been signed.
