SCO leaders signed Yekaterinburg Declaration

Almaty. June 16. Kazakhstan Today - The leaders of the SCO member countries signed the Yekaterinburg Declaration and the SCO Convention Against Terrorism, the agency reports citing television channel Vesti.

The leaders of the SCO member states and the observer countries signed a number of other documents, following the results of the summit session in the expanded structure.

The SCO Declaration states that the attempts to gain unilateral advantages in defense sphere are "counterproductive, undermine strategic balance and stability in the world, do not promote strengthening of trust, reduction of armaments and disarmament." "International peace is only possible in the conditions of equal security for all, without exceptions, states," the document states.

The SCO leaders also signed the documents - the statement of political-diplomatic measures and mechanisms of SCO response to the situations threatening peace, security and stability in the region and granting Sri Lanka and Belarus the status of the SCO dialogue partner.

Also the SCO leaders approved the report of the SCO Secretary General on the work of the organization during the last year, the report of the Council of SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure for 2008, the program of cooperation of the SCO member states in struggle against terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2010 - 2012. Two more agreements on professional training for antiterrorist units of the SCO member states and cooperation in the field of protection of international information security were also signed at the summit.
