Secretary General is certain in long-term organization expansion

SCO Secretary General, Muratbek Imanaliev, said during the video-press conference Moscow - Beijing that expansion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an unconditional prospect of the organization, the agency reports.

Moscow. February 4. Kazakhstan Today - SCO Secretary General, Muratbek Imanaliev, said during the video-press conference Moscow - Beijing that expansion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an unconditional prospect of the organization, the agency reports.

"Many countries and many international organizations are interested in the SCO work," he said, having added that as any other international organization, SCO plans to strengthen and expand its structure.

"There are two applications of Iran and Pakistan to join SCO," M. Imanaliev informed. He also informed, "SCO does not have any special preferences as to what countries should join the organization."

"Each new country should strengthen our organization."

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was organized on June, 15, 2002. The structure of the organization includes 6 member countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan, Russia, Tajikistan), 4 countries-observers (India, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan) and two dialogue partners (Belarus and Sri Lanka).
