Situation in Afghanistan - main source of threat of destabilization of situation in Central Asia - CSTO Secretary General

The situation in Afghanistan is one of the main sources of threat of destabilization of the situation in Central Asia, the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolay Bordyuzha stated in Bishkek after the end of the next session of Committee of the Secretaries of the Security councils of the CSTO member countries (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan), the agency reports referring to ITAR-TASS.

Kazakhstan Today - The situation in Afghanistan is one of the main sources of threat of destabilization of the situation in Central Asia, the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolay Bordyuzha stated in Bishkek after the end of the next session of Committee of the Secretaries of the Security councils of the CSTO member countries (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan), the agency reports referring to ITAR-TASS.

"Afghanistan is the first factor, which should be considered by CSTO to estimate the situation in the zone of activity of the organization," N. Bordyuzha said, having added that "if military operations will proceed in the Afghani territory and talibans begin to control the significant part of the country, it will threaten safety of the Central Asian states."

According to Bordyuzha, "creation or restoration of military infrastructure around CSTO countries, militant statements of the representatives of some of the states about desire to resolve the so-called "frozen conflicts" in a military way influences the situation in the region.

Three documents were signed during the session: a package of documents on CSTO peace-making activity, the agreement on the mode of deliveries of special technical and special means for law enforcement bodies of the CSTO member countries, the document on mechanisms of rendering emergency help to the CSTO countries.

As it was informed earlier, the session of the Secretaries of Security Councils took place prior to the CSTO summit, which will be held in Dushanbe on October 5-7.
