Situation in South Ossetia to be discussed at SCO summit

The leaders of the member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will discuss the situation in South Ossetia on August 28 at the forthcoming summit in Dushanbe, the agency reports referring to the information of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Kazakhstan Today - The leaders of the member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will discuss the situation in South Ossetia on August 28 at the forthcoming summit in Dushanbe, the agency reports referring to the information of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"The official position of the countries - participants of the organization will find reflection in the final declaration and the joint communique. The leaders of SCO member countries will announce positions on all questions of mutual interest: struggle against terrorism and acceptance of new members," the representative of the Russian foreign policy department said.

According to Director of Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Davlat Nazriyev, "Iran and Pakistan have been offered the new status - dialogue partner. The documents for removal of the moratorium on expansion of the organization and mechanisms of acceptance of new members will be developed during the summit.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan have the status of observers in the organization.
