TRACECA presidency shifted from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan

Presidency in the Intergovernmental Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia Program (TRACECA) has shifted from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan, the agency reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan.

Bishkek. June 18. Kazakhstan Today - Presidency in the Intergovernmental Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia Program (TRACECA) has shifted from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan, the agency reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the press service, VII annual session of the Intergovernmental TRACECA Commission took place in Cholpon-Ata of Issyk-Kul region. During the session, Vice Minister of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan, Azat Bekturov, on behalf of TRACECA chairman officially delegated the responsibilities of presidency in the organization to the Minister of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan, Nurlan Sulaymanov.

N. Sulaymanov assured that Kyrgyzstan will continue the work on development of the international transport corridor Europe - Caucasus - Asia.

"TRACECA corridor is one of the main links in the international transport communications, providing transportations between Europe and Asia, the European Commission (EC) Directorate-General for Energy and Transport (DG-TREN) informed.

During the session, the Islamic Republic of Iran was accepted as a full TRACECA member.

TRACECA program was created at the Brussels conference on May 3, 1993 with participation of Ministers of Transport and Commerce of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
