Uzbekistan terminated air traffic agreement with Tajikistan

Almaty. June 30. Kazakhstan Today - Uzbekistan has terminated a key air traffic agreement with Tajikistan and can temporarily close the air space for the Tajik planes, the agency reports citing Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RSE/RS).

Tajikistan aeronavigation expert Mahmadyusuf Shodiev said that the agreement №1993, according to which the Uzbek air dispatchers flew to the northern Sogdiysky area of Tajikistan and Tajik dispatchers supervised planes landing in the southern Surkhan-Darya area of Uzbekistan, will be invalid.

Aziz Nabiev, the chief of the air navigation service of the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Tajikistan, informed RSE/RS that, by the request of Uzbekistan, on June 26, the parties signed the temporal agreement, according to which dispatchers of each country incur full responsibility for the flights to the airdromes. Uzbekistan asked the Tajik planes flying to the Sogdiysky area not to begin landing in the Uzbekistan air space.

M. Shodiev said that all international air navigation, including flights between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, is regulated by the international rules and is under international control, therefore, there are no reasons for concern as for flights' safety.

Uzbekistan also cancelled a similar air traffic agreement with Kyrgyzstan.
