Dushanbe. August 29. Kazakhstan Today - Actions of Russia in South Ossetia have been directed at protection of peaceful population. The President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, said at the meeting with the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, after SCO summit, the agency reports referring to RIA Novosti.

"The West has ignored the attack of Georgian armed forces in Tskhinvali. All of us consider that all the subsequent actions of Russia have been directed at protection of the inhabitants of the city. Russia could either ignore, or to stop bloodshed of this long-suffering population," the President emphasized.

According to N. Nazarbayev, on August 8, on the day of the beginning of aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia, he met the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin: "I was in Beijing at the meeting with Putin... at that moment he received a phone call and we learned that Georgia attacked Tskhinvali. I saw him approached the US President, George Bush, and Bush said: nobody needs a war."

N. Nazarbayev spoke in support of "Medvedev-Sarkozi plan" of six items. He expressed confidence that all will return to peace. "We understand that all the measures have been accepted," the President of Kazakhstan noted.

"Russia has done its part of the plan and now the main thing is to achieve demilitarization in Georgia. The main thing now is to provide safety in Ossetia and Abkhazia," D. Medvedev said.

He informed that Russia is ready along with OSCE and EU partners to reach these goals.
