Belarus to introduce initiatives in connection with its presidency in CSTO

Belarus intends to introduce a number of initiatives in connection with its forthcoming presidency in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, informed, the agency reports citing the Russian information resource NEWSru.

Almaty. June 10. Kazakhstan Today - Belarus intends to introduce a number of initiatives in connection with its forthcoming presidency in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, informed, the agency reports citing the Russian information resource NEWSru.

The next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council will be held in Moscow on June 14, 2009. The Presidents of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will take part in the meeting.

The main question of the agenda is registration of the agreement on creation of Collective Rapid Response Forces (CRRF). Last week, the Secretary General of the organization, Nikolay Bordyuzha, said that the Presidents of the CSTO member countries will sign the agreement on CRRF creation on June 14, despite the existing differences in positions of Uzbekistan and other CSTO countries.

At the forthcoming summit, CSTO presidency will pass from Armenia to Belarus. A. Lukashenko, in this connection, promised to introduce a number of initiatives. He said that he considers necessary to stir up the work of the CSTO institutions during presidency of his country in this organization.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization - the military-political union of seven countries - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, created on the basis of the Collective Security Agreement of May 15th, 1992. The Collective Security Agreement was transformed to the international organization on May 14th, 2002. On December 2nd, 2004, CSTO obtained the status of observer in the UN General Assembly.
