Bishkek not plan to close USA access to air base Gansi

According to the agency, Julian said that no changes in the work of the base are expected. "We have the contract with the government of Kyrgyzstan. They receive millions for our presence there," he said. In the opinion of the Colonel, Bishkek does not plan to close the USA access to the base.

The statement of the President of Kyrgyzstan, made on the eve at the meeting with the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, G. Julian characterized as "political maneuvers."

As informed earlier, the commander-in-chief the USA central command, General David Petreus, arrived on January, 19th, 2009 in Kyrgyzstan. He said that annually the USA supports Kyrgyzstan through various programs for the sum of nearly $130 million. $63 million is paid to the air base.

As informed earlier, the government of Kyrgyzstan made a decision to terminate the term of the military base Gansi in the territory of the country. The President of Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiev, informed on his decision during the press conference, following the results of the negotiations with the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev.
