Central Electoral Committee to introduce amendments and additions to Election Legislation

The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan plans to introduce to the government a package of amendments and additions to the Election Legislation in the autumn.

Astana. March 28. Kazakhstan Today - The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan plans to introduce to the government a package of amendments and additions to the Election Legislation in the autumn. The chairman of the Central Election Committee Kuandyk Turgankulov informed today at the round table -Participants of Election Process: their problems and opportunities, the agency reports.

"The approximate date of introduction of the bill on amendments and additions to the Constitutional Law on Elections in Kazakhstan to the government is September - October, and to the Majilis - December, 2008, K. Turgankulov said.

He reminded that "the project of amendments to the Election Legislation was prepared by June, 2007, however, its discussion was postponed in connection with carrying out in the country of the constitutional reforms and extraordinary elections of Majilis deputies. "Since November, 2007 we resumed the work of the group on preparation of the bill, the main point of issues of which are recommendations of the missions on supervision of the last elections, proposals of the political parties, non-governmental organizations and the Central Electoral Committee directed at further improvement of the national Election Legislation," the chairman of the Central Election Committee specified.

The Central Election Committee has already received about 250 proposals on improvement of the Election Legislation. "They will be discussed during April and May. In June we schedule to hold one more round table so that in July we will be able to consider the bill on amendments and additions to the Constitutional Law on Elections and in September it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice," he continued.
