Astana. June 18. Kazakhstan Today - The President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, considers cluster of radiological medicine needs to be created in Semey. The President of the state informed today in Semey at the meeting devoted to the 20th anniversary of termination of tests on Semipalatinsk nuclear range, the agency reports citing the president's press service.

N. Nazarbayev emphasized the state will continue to assist the people who have been affected by the nuclear tests carried out earlier. "We carry out work on social rehabilitation of the population and the territories, affected by the nuclear tests. 34 billion KZT has been spent for these purposes. I consider that cluster of radiological medicine needs to be created in Semey. It could unite the efforts of the medical centers of Kazakhstan on diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases and the diseases caused by radiation," he said.

He reminded that "as a result of the national efforts, 11 out of 18 planned nuclear tests on Semipalatinsk range were stopped in 1989." "In total, 456 nuclear tests have been conducted, which total capacity by 2.5 thousand times exceeded the capacity of the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima," N. Nazarbayev added.
