CSTO creates peacekeeping forces

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) creates its peacekeeping forces, the press service of the CSTO Secretariat informed the agency. "The Agreement on CSTO Peacekeeping Activity came into force. It became possible after CSTO Secretariat, acting as a depositary, received the fourth written notice on realization of the interstate procedures by the members of the Agreement signed by the Organization," the press service informed.

Moscow. January 21. Kazakhstan Today - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) creates its peacekeeping forces, the press service of the CSTO Secretariat informed the agency.

"The Agreement on CSTO Peacekeeping Activity came into force. It became possible after CSTO Secretariat, acting as a depositary, received the fourth written notice on realization of the interstate procedures by the members of the Agreement signed by the Organization," the press service informed.

The Agreement on CSTO Peacekeeping Activity was signed by the leaders of the CSTO member states on October, 6th, 2007 at the summit in Dushanbe. The document was ratified by Belorussia on July, 14th, 2008, the Republic of Kazakhstan on November, 18th, 2008, and the Republic Armenia on December, 29th, 2008. The Russian Federation was the fourth state that executed the interstate procedures.

The agreement provides creation on a permanent basis of CSTO peacekeeping forces made of the peacekeeping contingents provided by the CSTO member states. They will have training preparation, according to the uniform programs, and will be equipped with the uniform or compatible arms and means of communication to take part in regular joint exercises.

According to the press service, according to the document, the CSTO peacekeeping forces can take part in peacekeeping operations both in the territory of the CSTO member states and, according to the decision of the Security Council of the United Nations, in the other regions as well.
