CSTO Secretary General supported Kazakhstan chairmanship in OSCE

Moscow. November 30. Kazakhstan Today - The CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha supported Kazakhstan chairmanship in OSCE at the 15th session of OSCE at the level of ministers in Madrid on Thursday, CSTO secretariat press service informed the agency.

"We express support for candidature of the Republic of Kazakhstan for presidency in OSCE in 2009 and are convinced that it will allow attaching a new impulse to development of the organization and will provide equality of all its participants and equity of geographical balance in supervising OSCE structures," N. Bordyuzha stated.

According to the press service, N. Bordyuzha reminded that the OSCE member states brought a number of specific proposals on increase of efficiency of OSCE work. These are the projects of the decisions, concerning struggle against threat of illegal circulation of drugs, development of the OSCE Charter, supervision of elections within the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

N. Bordyuzha noted that the CSTO member states support increase of the role of OSCE forum of cooperation in the field of safety and call to contribute efforts of the organization in military-political direction, CSTO secretariat press service informed.

    2022 declared Year of People’s Art and Cultural Heritage of CIS
    President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev revealed that 2022 was declared the Year of People's Art and Cultural Heritage of the CIS.

    At the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council on Friday, President Tokayev said that 2022 was declared the Year of People’s Art and Cultural Heritage of the CIS member states.

    He stressed that cultural and humanitarian sphere traditionally plays an important role in preserving historical ties and further rapprochement of the peoples.

    2022, according to the Kazakh President, will see holding of some 100 events aimed at the preservation of historical ties as well as strengthening of cooperation in the sphere of culture, tourism and sport.

    It was noted that implementation of the earlier adopted programs in the sphere of culture will also help deepen cooperation in that realm.

    It bears to remind that the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council was held in virtual format and chaired by Belarus.

    Tokayev suggests speeding up CIS trade and economic coop

    Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed CIS member nations to speed up trade and economic cooperation.
     

    The priority task is to accelerate and bolster trade and economic cooperation. According to some influential international organizations, the intra-regional sales of CIS member states reached over USD 91 bln or just 0.5% of the global trade. Thereat, the share of mutual trade between CIS countries accounts for just 20% of total commodity turnover of CIS countries and the foreign states," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said addressing the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

     
    According to the President, those indicators show that there is a huge potential for boosting trade and economic ties.

    Sixth group of Kazakhstani peacekeepers went to Lebanon
    The sixth group of Kazakhstani peacekeepers have left for Lebanon, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan said on Friday.
     

    The fifth Kazakhstani peacekeeping contingent has completed participation in the UN Interim Force in Lebanon mission. They were replaced by the sixth group of Kazakhstani peacekeepers. For six months, the Kazakhstani peacekeeping contingent carried out tasks of patrolling the area, serving at checkpoints, protecting the base, and also took part in the activities of the mission headquarters," the report says.

     
    According to the peacekeepers, daily patrolling of settlements and adjacent territories shows that a calm situation remains in the zone of responsibility.
