Destiny of OSCE mission in Kosovo remains unclear - OSCE representative

Destiny of OSCE mission in Kosovo remains unclear.

Astana. November 6. Kazakhstan Today - Destiny of OSCE mission in Kosovo remains unclear. The representative of the Conflict Prevention Center of OSCE secretariat Armands Pupols stated on Monday during the seminar-lecture OSCE - history of development, structure, and activity in the Senate of Parliament.

He noted, "in the beginning of the year there was more confidence that OSCE will remain in Kosovo."

"Now there is less confidence due to prospective succession of the events: probably, there will be a unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo. Some countries will recognize Kosovo as the independent country, but there are countries that will not recognize and they in this context can boycott the OSCE work in Kosovo," he explained. A. Pupols noted, "OSCE missions in the Southeast Europe are closed or reduced."

"In the context of the fact that many countries of the Southeast Europe have expressed desire to join the European Union, it will exert more influence and the objectives carried out by OSCE will be undertaken by the EU structures," he explained. "Probably, the missions that will be closed will be the mission in Croatia and the missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be reduced. There are missions in Serbia, Montenegro and Albania, there is no tendency for reduction," he added.
