Drugs seized in Zhambyl region identified as opium

According to the forensic chemical examination, the substance is the "opium". Total weight of the narcotic substance in 185 packages in the form of bricks was 181 kilograms 404 grams 400 milligrams.

Taraz. September 6. Kazakhstan Today - The examination showed that the arrested at the Karasu customs vast consignment of drugs is about 181.5 kilograms of opium, Kazakhstan Today reports.

Previous day the Department of Customs Control of Zhambyl region informed about the arrest of drugs on the Karasu checkpoint and the appointment of a forensic chemical examination. At the same time there was an assumption that the drug was heroin, the press service of the Customs Department reminded.

"According to the forensic chemical examination, the substance is the "opium". Total weight of the narcotic substance in 185 packages in the form of bricks was 181 kilograms 404 grams 400 milligrams", the press service informed.

According to the Department, currently a criminal case is launched under article 259, sub-paragraphs a) and c) of paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code on the illegal transfer of drugs across the border of the Customs Union.

On September 4, 2012 a DAF brand car with the state number KGDH and trailer 6668, which was going from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan, was detained. During the inspecting and vetting process in the body of the vehicle motor under the top casing in plastic bags, reminiscent of bricks, clay-colored substance is detected with a specific smell.

We note that, according to Wikipedia, opium is the dried latex, which is derived from unripe poppy - soporific poppy (Papaver somniferum). Opium is used to make homemade opioid drugs, or is the raw material for further synthesis of chemically pure opiates.

Several sources indicate that about one kilogram of heroin can be produced out of 10 kilograms of opium.
