Almaty. February 3. Kazakhstan Today - The Committee to Protect Journalists informed the Egyptian President supporters attacked journalists on Cairo streets on Wednesday, the agency reports.

Supporters of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak attacked journalists on Cairo streets on Wednesday, the Committee to Protect Journalists said, calling the incidents an effort at "blanket censorship," Reuters reported.

The New York-based rights group released a statement urging the Egyptian military to provide protection for journalists covering protests there and listing a series of attacks.

"The Egyptian government is employing a strategy of eliminating witnesses to their actions," said Mohamed Abdel Dayem, CPJ's Middle East and North Africa coordinator.

"The government has resorted to blanket censorship, intimidation, and today a series of deliberate attacks on journalists carried out by pro-government mobs," he said.

CNN's Anderson Cooper said he, a producer and camera operator were set upon by people who began punching them and trying to break their camera. Another CNN reporter, Hala Gorani, said she was shoved against a fence when demonstrators rode in on horses and camels, and feared she was going to get trampled, Associated Press informed.

A journalist for Dubai-based Al-Arabiya television suffered a concussion, said media watchdog International Press Institute, citing Randa Abul-Azm, the station's bureau chief in Cairo.
