Egypt's revolution to be discussed at Munich Security Conference

The 47th Munich Conference on Security Policy is kicking off on February 4th. It will be mainly focused on Egypt's revolution and its influence on the region. Russia will share its view on the problem in a report by the country's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, The Voice of Russia informed..

Among other issues on the agenda are the world financial crisis in relation to global security, ways to strengthen international security, nuclear non-proliferation and cybersecurity. Egypt was put on the list at last gasp due to an outrage and unrest in the country. A round table on the problem will be attended by George Mitchell, US Special Envoy for Middle East peace, representatives of Israel, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries. The same experts will later attend the Mid East Quartet session which will be joined by Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, UN Secretary General Ban Ki- moon and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton.

Sergey Lavrov will first talk Egypt and then turn to Russia-NATO joint ABM project in Euro-Atlantic. This information comes from the Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich.

Sergey Lavrov will put an accent on primary tasks to provide for the Euro-Atlantic and European security worked out after the Russia-NATO Council summit in Lisbon and the OSCE summit in Astana. He'll also discuss Dmitry Medvedev's European security initiative and Russian proposals on the sectoral approach when combining Russia and NATO ABM potential.

The Munich Conference is often called the Security Davos. The event is expected to be attended by 350 participants, including 12 heads of state, 36 foreign and defense ministers, at least 70 international delegations, deputies, experts and journalists. The star turn of the conference will be February 5, when Russia and the US will exchange the START 3 ratification credentials, signed by Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama. The Treaty's entry into force will mark a new era in global security.
