EU to strengthen policy of development of cooperation with Central Asia
Astana. October 11. Kazakhstan Today - The European Union plans to strengthen policy of expansion of cooperation with the Central Asian countries. The EU Council Secretary General Javier Solana said on Wednesday at the press conference, the agency reports.
"The European Union decided to develop the relations with the Central Asian region in all directions - political, economic, energy and also in the field of international politics in the beginning of 2008," J. Solana noted. "This region will play more and more important role and for this reason the EU intends to strengthen cooperation with this region," he emphasized. "I plan to visit all the countries of the region and to continue this process of strengthening of our relations," he added.
According to J. Solana, the EU intends to give special attention to strengthening of the relations with Kazakhstan. "We plan to deepen our economic relations, our relations in the energy sphere," he specified. "We have for this purpose plenty opportunities. Kazakhstan is developing economically very stably and quickly, the energy component is very high and we are planning on cooperating in development of energy resources," he noted. "On the other hand we intend to continue to invest to the economy of your country and to increase volume of export to Kazakhstan," the EU Council Secretary General added.
