Almaty. December 22. Kazakhstan Today - The President of Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, said that expansion of the US military base in Kyrgyzstan is out of the question, the agency reports with reference in the interview to the Russian Independent Newspaper.

"When Kyrgyzstan government was giving a permit to the United States on opening of the military base in Manas, we agreed that it would exist until the end of the war with the Talibs. We agreed," he continued.

"I, at that time, worked as the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan and I remember how many in the government, including the President Akaev, considered that the Americans did not have to pay for the base and use of our runway of air navigation, etc. I insisted that they should pay. We agreed that they would stay in the country for a year or two until the end of the war in Afghanistan. But, as you can see, seven years have passed," the leader of Kyrgyzstan said.
