First foreign visit of new Russian President to Kazakhstan demonstrates high level of strategic partnership - MFA

Astana. May 13. Kazakhstan Today - The fact that the first foreign visit of the new President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev will be to Kazakhstan demonstrates high level of strategic partnership of two countries. The official representative of Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev informed at the briefing on Monday, the agency reports.

"The fact that the leader of the Russian state the President Dmitry Medvedev will pay first foreign visit to Kazakhstan is demonstration of high level of strategic partnership of our countries," Y. Ashikbayev said.

He reminded that the state visit of the leader of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev will take place in Astana by invitation of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on May 22-23.

During the visit, according to the representative of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry, the parties will discuss a wide range of questions of bilateral cooperation and will exchange opinions on a number of international issues.

Following the results of 2007, commodity turnover between two countries made $16.3 billion. Growth as compared to 2006 makes 27%. For the first quarter of 2008 trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia reached $4.13 billion that is by 26% higher than the level of the similar period of last year.
