Full cycle of election procedures of Senate deputies to be completed within 73 calendar days - Turgankulov

According to the approved today by Central Election Committee the planned schedule, full cycle of election procedures of Senate deputies, established by the Law on Elections, will be completed within 73 calendar days. The chairman of Central Election Committee, Kuandyk Turgankulov, informed at the briefing today, the agency reports.

Astana. August 1. Kazakhstan Today - According to the approved today by Central Election Committee the planned schedule, full cycle of election procedures of Senate deputies, established by the Law on Elections, will be completed within 73 calendar days. The chairman of Central Election Committee, Kuandyk Turgankulov, informed at the briefing today, the agency reports.

"According to Kazakhstan Constitution, two candidates from each oblast, city of the republican value and the capital of Kazakhstan are elected to the Senate, as established by the constitutional Law on Elections, ," K. Turgankulov informed. "15 deputies are appointed by the leader of the state," he added.

Nomination of candidates will be carried out from August 2 till September 3. Registration of candidates will last till September 13 and pre-election campaign will be held from September 14 till October 2, 2008.

"Voting, calculation of votes and announcement of the results of voting will be held by the regional, Astana and Almaty cities election commissions within one day - October 4," K. Turgankulov said. "Not later than October 10, 2008 Central Election Committee will make the results of the elections public," he said.

The chairman of Central Election Committee reminded that the term of powers of Senate deputies - six years. Deputies are elected on the basis of indirect suffrage. Half of elected deputies of the senate are re-elected each three years.
