Georgia awaits cancellation of state of emergency

The Georgian's Parliament decision on the state of emergency on the territory of the country will be cancelled ahead of the schedule on Friday at 19.00 by local time, the agency reports.

Tbilisi. November 19. Kazakhstan Today - The Georgian's Parliament decision on the state of emergency on the territory of the country will be cancelled ahead of the schedule on Friday at 19.00 by local time, the agency reports.

According to the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Nino Burdjanadze, cancellation of the state of emergency will allow the country to return to normal rhythm of life.

The Parliament of Georgia unanimously supported the decree of the President of Georgia M. Saakashvili about introduction of state of emergency for the period of 15 days on November 9. The decree was accepted in connection with the fierce collisions between mass meeting of opposition and law enforcement bodies in Tbilisi on November 7.

In connection with introduction of state of emergency, carrying out of demonstrations and meetings and restrictions on receiving and distribution of information was vetoed, therefore, all radio and TV agencies were temporarily closed. Broadcasting of telechannels Kavkasiya and tele radio corporations Imedi have been suspended.

However, after cancellation of state of emergency broadcasting of Imedi, the owner of which is the American media holding News Corp, will not be resumed. According to the decision of the city court of Tbilisi, the State Office of Public Prosecutor, in connection with anti state activity of Imedi, which called the population to overthrow the authority, imposed arrest on property of the corporation and withdrew the license for broadcasting.

In connection with the decision of Georgian authorities, the owner of News Corp media magnate Rupert Merdok addressed the President of the USA George Bush and the State Secretary Condoleezza Rice with the request to express protest regarding the actions concerning broadcasting company Imedi.
