Georgia made decision on quitting CIS

The Georgian Parliament voted for withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on Thursday, the agency reports.

Tbilisi. August 15. Kazakhstan Today - The Georgian Parliament voted for withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on Thursday, the agency reports.

The decision on immediate withdrawal of Georgian membership from the CIS was unanimously supported by 117 deputies at the session on Thursday. The Parliament members have abolished base documents on Georgia membership in the CIS: the decision on creation the CIS in 1991, the CIS Charter of 1993 and the Contract on Economic Relations of 1993.

According to the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Georgia for Legal Affairs, Paul Kublashvili, the decision means that since this day Georgia will not have any relations with the CIS countries.

"The decision of Georgia on leaving the CIS is not only the protest against the last events of the Russian Federation in the territory of the country, but also the protest against those countries that have not declared their position and have not supported the side of justice during these difficult days," the representative of parliamentary minority, Targamadze, stated at the Parliament session of Georgia.

The President of Georgia, Michael Saakashvili, declared the decision on quitting the CIS on August, 12 at a rally in Tbilisi.
