Georgia to continue to participate in 76 agreements after withdrawal from CIS

After withdrawal from the CIS, Georgia will continue to participate in 76 agreements accepted within the Commonwealth. This decision was made, following the results of the session of the expert group created for consideration of participation of Georgia in the international agreements and decisions of the CIS institutions taken place on June 3-4 in the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk, the agency reports citing the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

Moscow. June 5. Kazakhstan Today - After withdrawal from the CIS, Georgia will continue to participate in 76 agreements accepted within the Commonwealth. This decision was made, following the results of the session of the expert group created for consideration of participation of Georgia in the international agreements and decisions of the CIS institutions taken place on June 3-4 in the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk, the agency reports citing the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

"The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Georgia informed the CIS Executive Committee of withdrawal of the country from the Commonwealth on August 18th, 2008. According to Article 9 of the CIS Charter, CIS states have the right to withdraw from the Commonwealth. CIS states shall inform on such intention 12 months prior to leaving the Commonwealth. Thus, the obligations undertaken during membership in the Commonwealth shall be fulfilled. Georgia informed of the intention to remain the participant of some agreements signed earlier," the press service informed.

According to the press service, the experts stated the absence of legal obstacles for participation of Georgia in these agreements as the participants of those agreements can also be non-members of the Commonwealth.
