Government meeting discussed questions of EITI development mechanisms

Astana. July 12. Kazakhstan Today - Today the government meeting participants under the presidency of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov discussed the questions of development of mechanisms of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), the PM's press service informed.

The representatives of coalition of nongovernmental organizations took part in the work of the meeting Oil Income - Under Society's Control!

At the meeting the questions of participation of all extracting companies working in Kazakhstan in realization of the Initiative of transparency and further activity of coalition in the nearest years have been discussed.

Following the results of the meeting, K. Masimov gave specific assignments for further EITI realization.

As it was informed earlier, the Initiative of transparency of activity of extracting companies was proposed in 2002 in Great Britain by Toni Blair, ex-Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The main task of the Initiative - to make transparent the income received by the state from activity of the extracting companies.

Kazakhstan joined the Initiative in 2004. There are more than 90 companies' participants working in Kazakhstan. Earlier, the government suggested that all, more than 250, enterprises take part in it.
