Islam Karimov proposed for president of Uzbekistan

Promotion was anticipated by I. Karimov's speech at the congress. After the President made the report to the delegates, the participants nominated him as the candidate for the president's post. Earlier, the political council of the Liberal-Democratic party had already proposed I. Karimov's candidature.

The presidential elections of Uzbekistan have been scheduled for December 23. Karimov's nomination was proposed earlier by the political council of the party. Five more parties of the country will nominate their candidates.

Islam Karimov has been the President of Uzbekistan since March 24, 1990. He was elected for the first time on December 29, 1991.
