Joint session of Parliament Chambers opened

Astana. May 16. Kazakhstan Today - The joint session of the Chambers of the Parliament where the deputies should consider in the first reading the bill on amendments and additions to the Kazakhstan Constitution opened, the agency reports.

77 Majilis deputies out of 70 and 33 Senate deputies out of 39 are taking part in the session. "There is the necessary quorum," the Chairman of Majilis of the Parliament Ural Mukhamedzhanov said opening the session.

The deputy Chairman of the president's administration Onalsyn Zhumabekov will make the report.

As it was informed earlier, the constitutional reforms proposed by the Kazakhstan leader include: the reduction of the term of presidential powers from seven to five years. The number of deputies of the Parliament will be increased up to 154 people, including the number of Majilismen that will increase by 30, senators - by 8. The elections to the Majilis have been proposed to take place according to the party lists.

The form of governing in Kazakhstan will remain presidential, but powers of the Parliament will be essentially extended. The Prime Minister will be appointed by the President after consultation with the parliamentary fractions of political parties and the consent of the majority Majilis deputies. The Parliament will form two thirds of the structure of the Constitutional council, two third of the Central Electoral Committee and two third of the Counting committee.

The amendments will also touch upon the section of the Constitution on local government. It is proposed to increase the term of the power of the Maslikhat deputies from four to five years and appointment of akims with Maslikhat consent.
