Almaty. April 4. Kazakhstan Today - Official turnout in Kazakhstan's election on Sunday was 89.9 percent, the Central Election Commission said, Kazakhstan Today reports.

Official turnout was 89.9 percent in Kazakhstan's election on Sunday, the Central Election Commission said, citing preliminary data after polls closed, Reuters reported.

Turnout exceeded the 76.8 percent who voted in the last presidential election in 2005. The first official results are expected early on Monday.

The early presidential elections took place on April 3. Voting lasted until 20.00.

Three candidates are: the incumbent President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, Gani Kasymov, and a party member, Zhambyl Akhmetbekov, nominated by the People' Democratic Party Nur Otan, the Party of Patriots of Kazakhstan, and the Communist Party of Kazakhstan respectively. Mels Yeleussizov is a self-nominated candidate.
