Kazakh Majilis Chairman spoke at Autumn session of CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow

The Majilis speaker mentioned the priority directions as Kazakhstan chairs the CSTO in 2018.
The Kazakh Majilis Chairman took part in a session of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow, press service of the Majilis reports.

In his speech at the session of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Nurlan Nigmatulin spoke of the directions outlined by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the CSTO Summit in Minsk in the previous year as priority ones within Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in 2018.

Among them, to intensify cooperation in the military sphere, including the military and technical sector, as well as to actively involve the CSTO in the formation of an international global system to combat terrorism.

Ass the Majilis speaker noted, the important step in the strengthening of cooperation of international organizations in the creation of a broad anti-terrorist coalition was the Memorandum of Cooperation between the CSTO Secretariate, the CIS Anti-terrorist Centre and the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure signed on May.

Systematic work to sign a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding between the CSTO Secretariate and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office is underway.

According to the Majilis Chairman, the adoption of the Code of Conduct by the United Nations on September 28, which was initiated by the President of Kazakhstan, to reach a world free of terrorism was a breakthrough in the global fight against terrorism.

The fight against challenges in cybersecurity is one of the important directions.

At the same time, the Majilis Chairman named the ensuring of an effective legislative framework as a key factor of effective interaction.

As an example, Nurlan Nigmatulin used the draft law on the ratification of the Agreement on Cooperation of the CSTO member states in the provision of information security that is already submitted in the Majilis and will be considered in the near future.

The fight against illegal drug trafficking is also an important direction.

Underlining that collective efforts enable to adequately respond to the provision of national and collective security, the Majilis Chairman emphasized the increasing role and importance of interparliamentary cooperation of the CSTO member states in this regard.

The agenda of the plenary session that has been taken on the same day discussed model laws and recommendations on ensuring national security, information activities to counter terrorism and extremism, recognizing organizations as terrorist, including developing, manufacturing, servicing and recycling weapons and military equipment.

These documents aim at harmonizing national legislation of our states to increase the effectiveness of interaction within the CSTO.
