Kazakh Parliament passed amendment to legislation on early presidential elections

Deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan passed the constitutional law on introduction of additions and amendments to some constitutional laws of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Today reports.

Astana. February 3. Kazakhstan Today - Deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan passed the constitutional law on introduction of additions and amendments to some constitutional laws of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Today reports.

This morning the bill was passed by the Majilis of the Parliament. The law has been passed and is forwarded to the head of state.

The bill is directed at implementation of the the amendment to the constitutional laws on elections in Kazakhstan and on President of the Republic of Kazakhstan introduced to the Constitution of Kazakhstan.

The article 51-1 'Early presidential elections of the Republic' has been introduced to the Constitutional Law of September 28, 1995 on Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan. According to the paragraph 1 of this article, "early presidential elections shall be called by the president of the Republic and shall be held within two months from the set date." Paragraph 2 specifies, "the next presidential elections will be called in five years in accordance with the current constitutional law."

The amendment is directed at granting the right to the president of Kazakhstan to call early presidential elections and regulating the order of calling of subsequent elections.
