Kazakh President Holds Talks with Executives of China's Leading Technology Companies

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a series of meetings with executives of China's leading high-tech companies during his working visit to Shanghai, with discussions focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation in advanced technology sectors, the Akorda presidential press service reported.

During a meeting with Lu Weibing, Partner and President of Xiaomi Corporation, the two sides discussed prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation. Tokayev proposed exploring joint projects in artificial intelligence, computing capacity, cloud technologies and digital platforms, and also expressed interest in partnering on the production of electric vehicles and batteries.

The head of state also held talks with Pan Jian, Co-Chairman of the Board of CATL. Tokayev welcomed the company's plans to build a battery manufacturing plant in Kazakhstan, which could become the first facility of its kind in Central Asia.

The president noted that Kazakhstan has all the necessary conditions to establish a full production cycle, from raw material processing to the manufacture of finished products. Pan Jian, in turn, said CATL views Kazakhstan as a reliable partner for the implementation of joint projects.

During a meeting with Zhang Binnan, President of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), Tokayev discussed joint transport, logistics and energy projects, including the construction of the Bakhty-Ayagoz railway line and Kazakhstan's first 600 MW pumped-storage hydropower plant.

In talks with Yu Boyan, Chairman of the Board of Guoyou Materials Industry Group Co., Ltd., the parties discussed the implementation of the multifunctional Port of Kuryk project in the Mangystau Region. The first phase of the project is expected to provide an annual handling capacity of up to 15 million tonnes.
