Kazakh President proposes to hold the next session of EEU in Astana

The Head of State pointed out the positive trends in the activity of joint enterprises.
President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed to conduct the next session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Union in May 2019 in Astana, Akorda reports.

In the course of the session, the members of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Union heard the reports on the digital agenda, including the formation of common markets of gas, petroleum and oil products, as well as discussed the further interaction within the Union. The Kazakh President underlined that 2018 had become particularly important in the EEU history.

Despite the given external conditions and risks due to the volatile global economy, we have managed to keep the positive growth dynamic. So there has been a considerable increase in volumes of trade and mutual trade in the period from January to September this year," said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The head of state outlined the positive trends in the activity of joint enterprises. The new EEU Customs Code has entered into force in 2018 in which the latest approaches to customs administration, including business process automation and the introduction of a 'one window' principle are reflected.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also dwelled on the results of the implementation of the main points of the digital agenda until 2025.

An experiment on satellite monitoring of transit goods between Kazakhstan and Russia's customs services has been completed. Work is ongoing to eliminate mutual trade hurdles and restrictions. On top of that international cooperation develops actively," said the Head of State.

The President of Kazakhstan has supported the further expansion of interaction within the EEU, and underlined the necessity of an in-depth feasibility study for each new area of work by the EEC and the Governments of the member states.

In general, we are making credible efforts to reach the main tasks of the EEU - the free movement of goods, services, capital, and workforce. We also should make extra efforts to ensure the full functioning of the EEU," said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The Head of State underlined the necessity to finish works on the documents aimed at ensuring the four 'freedoms,' including the treaty on pension coverage of the EEU citizens.

It is necessary to exclude all mutual trade hurdles by 2025, which is the main condition of the full functioning of our union. The commissions and governments need to activate work in this area," said the Kazakh President.

Nursultan Nazarbayev underlined the necessity to implement the 'anchor' projects in the key sectors of the economy. In this connection, the commissions and governments of the EEU member states were encouraged to identify such projects.

Back in 1994, I spoke of the vision to establish an integration project and the principles of equality and voluntariness at Moscow State University. At that time, I thought of a powerful economic union that would turn into a huge player in the international arena over time. Today the vision is a reality. The next year marks the 5th anniversary since the signing of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union and the 25th anniversary of the vision on the Eurasian Integration. I propose to hold the next session in May 2019 in Astana so to mark these two dates," said the Head of State.
