Kazakh President signed billion-dollar deals during China visit
Almaty. February 23. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan and China signed a number of deals on Tuesday in Beijing, Kazakhstan Today reports.
China and Kazakhstan have agreed to billions of dollars in new business projects during a visit to Beijing by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, VOANews reported.
The deals signed Tuesday include China's agreement to buy thousands of tons of Kazakh uranium to meet its nuclear-fuel needs. China will also help develop a high-speed railway linking the Kazakh capital Astana and the city of Almaty - a distance of about 1,050 kilometers.
The agreements were finalized following a meeting on Tuesday between President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Chinese President Hu Jintao.
The Kazakh leader also met with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and other high-ranking officials during a three-day mutual cooperation visit.
China and Kazakhstan exchanged $20 billion in trade last year.
In a recent interview with China's official Xinhua news agency, Mr. Nazarbayev said he welcomed the presence of more than 1,000 Chinese companies in Kazakhstan.
